Deep Diving into Captivity
Thesis Publication
To complement my thesis, I designed a comprehensive publication that encapsulates the core findings and design solutions from my research on animals in captivity, specifically focusing on ocean animals. This publication serves as a visual summary of the various investigations, a children’s book, info cards, and sticker packs detailing the design process, key insights, and the impact I aimed to achieve with each piece. The layout combines engaging visuals with concise, informative text, offering a cohesive overview of my project. It acts as both an educational tool and a reflection of how design can be used to raise awareness and spark conversations about the ethical treatment of animals in captivity
Children’s Book
Olly’s Ocean Adventure is a fully illustrated children’s book that I designed from concept to completion. This project highlights my ability to create engaging, age-appropriate visuals through thoughtful character development, vibrant underwater scenes, and playful typography. I focused on building a cohesive visual narrative that supports the emotional arc of the story while appealing to young readers. From color palette selection to page layout and visual pacing, every design decision was made to enhance the storytelling experience and bring Olly’s world to life in a fun, accessible way.
This children’s book was created as part of my thesis project, which aimed to use design as a tool to raise awareness about animals in captivity, specifically targeting a younger audience. Tackling a serious subject, I focused on crafting a lighthearted and visually engaging story that children could enjoy, while subtly introducing the deeper message about the emotional and physical effects of captivity on animals. Through thoughtful illustration, color choices, and narrative design, this publication reflects my belief that powerful messages can be delivered in accessible and
age-appropriate ways.
Info Cards
This series of teen-friendly info cards was designed to communicate key facts about the realities of animal captivity in a clear, engaging, and
age-appropriate way. Each card features hand drawn illustrations paired with concise, accessible text to make complex issues more digestible for younger audiences. The goal was to inform and spark curiosity without overwhelming, using thoughtful design, color choices, and layout to balance visual appeal with educational impact. This project demonstrates my ability to translate heavy topics into approachable print materials that resonate with a younger demographic.
